Energy-effective technologies

Energy efficiency and energy saving are the part of 5 strategic directions of prioritized technological development of Russia. 

Energy efficiency – is efficient and rational usage of energetic resources- is achievement of economically feasible efficiency of fuel and energy resources application with current level of technology and process engineering development and compliance with environmental protection requirements.

Efficient energy application or the “fifth fuel” is the usage of smaller fuel amounts for keeping the same level of energy supply of buildings or technological processes’ at the place of production. 

In contrast to energy saving (energy conservation or power saving) which main principle is the reduction of energy consumption, energy saving (energy consumption profit) is useful (efficient) energy consumption.
 
Main directions of energy efficiency improvement

  • Energy saving in blocks and budget sphere  
  • Reduction of energy losses during energy supply
  • Improvement of electric and heat energy efficiency 
  • Implementation of energy efficient equipment at the production places

Main electric energy consumer in Russia is industry (share of consumption – 60%). Russian economy considerably depends on energy-intensive industries. Share of this industry in gross domestic product comprises about 40%, and the share of energy-intensive industries in the structure of export exceeded the amount of 90%. 

Importance of energy efficiency questions for population is rising due to following factors:

  • Average cost for energy resources are rising quicker than inflation does
  • Share of expenses for public utility services comprises over 10% from all expenses of Russia’s population. This index is twice bigger comparing to USA and a bit less than in United Kingdom.

Basic ways of energy efficacy improvement in public utility services and housing areas:

  • Old incandescent light bulbs replacement of for energy saving light bulbs (fluorescent lamps, LED-lamps, electrodeless lamps) in public places;
  • Installation of metering unit and weather-regulated heating supply control;
  • Application of heat pumps in heating and conditioning systems;
  • Heat loss reduction due to usage of heat insulated walls, energy-efficient windows;
  • Application of solar water heating units;
  • To increase the lighting level of indoor spaces;
